Brisbane Top 40 Charts March 30th 1973

This is from the Telegraph 50 years ago March 30th 1973 and this is the Brisbane Top 40 Charts (4BC) with the number 1 spot this week 50 years was the Moody Blues with Nights In White Satin which was actually an 60's hit for them which went to number 19 in the UK in 1967 and number 103 in the USA as it was from the Days of The Future Passed album which in late 1972 it reissued and it was an bigger hit in the USA peaking at number 2, the UK going to number 9 and Australia number 8. The Moody Blues were also on the Brisbane charts this week 50 years ago with I'm Just A Singer In A Rock & Roll Band at number 33 whichw as from the album Seventh Sojourn album. Also in the top 40 were the Osmonds with Crazy Horses at number 16 while Donny was at number 9 with Why/Lonely Boy and the new entries in the Brisbane charts this week 50 years was Johnny Farnham with Everything's Out of Season at number 30 and The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia at number 34.

Moving On Skiffle by Van Morrison

This is the new album by legendary Irish singer-songwriter Van Morrison and it has covers of songs that were part of the skiffle craze in Britian in the 50's that had tea chest bass, wash boards and an acoustic guitar and Lonnie Donegan who was an big part of the scene that would influence generations of British musicians like Paul mcCartney, Mick Jagger, Roger Daltrey and many others who started out doing skiffle before becoming rock and roll. Among the songs on the album inclduing Frieght Train, Cold Cold Heart, I'm Moving On, Cotton Fields and many others and among the musicians who play on the album is English singer-songwriter and multi instrumentalist Seth Lakeman as well as Colin Griffin on drums and Dave Keary on guitar. It is an FANTASTIC album with FANTASTIC songs with great singing by Van who is still singing better than ever and the album is at number 16 in the UK and number 31 in Ireland. This is the new duets CD by Australian singer Mirusia and records with Australian and International singers including Dennis Walter, Tommy Fleming and Paulini as well as the songs on the album are covers of songs done by the Seekers, Jon English, Richard Marx and many others. It is an FANTASTIC album with great songs and great singing and Mirusia has shows coming up including Brisbane next weekend at Opera Queensland Studio as well as Twin Towns on May 13th and the City Hall on May 23rd as well as QPAC in July with Mark Vincent . I give it 4 stars as it's in the shops now so do yourselves an Favour and BUY IT which you will love it.

Punk Paradox by Greg Graffin

This is the memoir of American singer and member of the legendary American punk rock band Bad Religion Greg Graffin and in this book he talks about his upbringing in Wisconsin, his parents' divorce, moving to California with his family in the mid 70's, formed Bad Religion in 1980 which they would achieve success with albums including Stranger Than Ficiton and No Substance, break up of his first marriage, encounters with Green Day, Eddie Vedder and Blink 182 and many others. It is FANTASTIC, BRILLIANT and SUPERB with FANTASTIC stories as well as very impressive and very entertaining which it is well worth an read. Bad Religion is doing an show in Las Vegas in May and shows in Spain and Portugal in June and Greg does lecturing as well. This is an must for 80's music fans and I giving this 5 stars as it's in the shops now so do yourselves an favour and BUY IT which you will be impressed and amazed.

Last Sunday I went to the Events Cinema in the city to see the movie Living. It's 1953 in London and Williams (Bill Nighy) an civil Servant for Public Service who is lonely at home, buried under paperwork and feels empty as well as his life been meaningless and recieves news that he has terminal cancer and has got months to live he goes to an seaside where he encounters an man called Sutherland (Tom Burke) who helps him to live life as well as going back to London where he helps Margaret (Aimee Lee Wood) who once worked for Williams spreading her wings and wants to create an legacy for the next generation which gets interesting. It is FANTASTIC and very entertaining with excellent acting by Bill Nighy who was nominated for the Best Actor Oscar recently, Aimee Lee Wood, Tom Burke, Alex Sharp and Adrian Rawlins. Rock The Ages show @ Wynnum RSL

LAst Saturday night March 18th I went to the Wynnum RSL Club to see the Rock The Ages show doing an 80's show tribute to the rock bands of the 80's including Kiss, Anthrax, Van Halen and many others annd it was my first time seeing an show there since Saturday February 15th 2020 when i saw the Bee Gees Tribute Show. I caught the bus from home to Cannon Hill, then caught the bus from Cannon Hill to Wynnum , went to Wynnum RSL, rang home, had Steak chips and salad for dinner, drank Coke with No Sugar and ate Caramel Slice. Went up stairs, sat at one of the tables , drank Coke with No Sugar and use mobile. The show started at 8.04pm with the band coming on stage with some wearing KISS shirts and performed in the first set songs by Twisted Sister, Alice Cooper, Guns N Roses, Van Halen, Bon Jovi and many others with people coming on the dance floor and there was an interval which I had an Coke With No Sugar to drink. On November 16th 1987 English singer Rick Astley released his debut album Whenever You Need Somebody which went to number 1 in the UK and Australia and number 10 in the USA and from that had the singles the ttile track, Never Gonna Give You Up, Together Forever, When I Fall In Love and It Would Take A Strong Strong Man and it was written and produced by Stockman Aitken Waterman, Phil Harding, Ian Curnow and Daize Washbourn and last year 2022 was 35 years when it was released so they reissued it again so I am giving it an review. Besides the original tracks from the album it has an reimagined version of some of the tracks as well as pianoforte version of Never Gonna Give You Up as well as instrumental versions of the hits as well as the b sides and different mixes. On Sunday when i was in the city having Subway I saw on Facebook about the passing of the original founding member of the legendary Australian group the Delltones Brian Perkins which i was sad to hear that and it's an great loss to the Australian music industry and to his family. The Delltones were formed in 1958 with Brian who came from an duo called the Harmony Boys, Warren Lucas who came from the Sapphires, Noel Widerberg and Ian 'Pee Wee" Wilson and it was Warren Lucas who came up with the name The Delltones after buying an album . They sang anywhere including street corners, toilets and doorways mainly for nothing or an bowl of spagetthi and beer and their very first paid gig was at the Broadway Theatre April 26th 1959 doing 3 songs . Last Saturday night February 25th I went to Twin Towns for the second time that weekend to see legendary American singer Gary Puckett with the Union Gap and it was my second time seeing gary as the first time was at Kedron Wavell Thursday March 5th 2009 as I have been wanting to see him live again which I finally got my wish. I walked to Twin Towns, Saw Ray and his wife as well as meeting Cliff an Brisbane musician who played in an band called Jug Band in the 70's which he talked his experiences as well as talking about working with Chuck Berry in 1976 in Brisbane, went inside and waited. on Friday night February 24th I went to Twin Towns to see the show 50 Years of Aloha From Hawaii show. I walk to Twin Towns, went up to the 5th floor,Saw Robyn an lady I know from the gigs, bought Gordon Hendricks CD and an Elvis Hat, drank Coke With No Sugar, went inside, sat on the front row and waited. the show started after 8pm with compere Colin Greene coming out saying an few words and the first act was Shaylee Wilde who came from Ireland coming to Australia in the mid 70's and performs at the Mercantile Hotel in Sydney and performed an few songs including Danny Boy and From Galway to Graceland with an acoustic guitar, then Jacqueline Feilich who does the She is The King Elvis tribute show came on next which she performed am number of Elvis classics including Trying To Get To You, Fame and Fortune, Never Been To Spain and others which she sounded great and did an FANTASTIC set and then Maori Entertainer who is based in Australia Peter Paki did the Tom Jones Set which incl
