Till

On Sunday I went to the Dendy Cinema Coorparoo to see the movie Till. It's Chicago August 1955 and 14 year old Emmett Till (jalyn Hall) who lives with his mother Mamie (Danielle Deadwyler) and his maternal grandmother Alma Carthan(Whoopi Goldberg) is going down to Money Mississippi to spend with time with his cousins and Mamie warns him to be very careful around white people there which he catches the train with his uncle Mose Preacher Wright(John Douglas Thompson) and cousin Wheeler(Marc Collins) to Mississippi. He works on the fields picking cottons and goes with his cousins to the Grocery and Meat Market where he buys candy and encounters an young white woman Carolyn Bryant(Haley Bennett) which leads to trouble after whistling at her and then he is kidnapped and eventually killed beaten and shot which his body is dumped in the Tallahatchie River. Mamie gets the news about Emmett being found dead and wants his body to be brought back to Chicago which it does and also after seeing her son's mutilated body on the autopsy table Mamie wants the coffin to be left open to show what happend to Emmett which his killing and funeral is big news around the United States. She fights for justice for her son and it gets very interesting. It is sad, confronting, FANTASTIC, BRILLIANT and SUPERB with FANTATSIC and SUPERB acting by Danielle Deadwyler, Whoopi Goldberg, Jalyn Hall, Marc Collins, John Douglas Thompson and Haley Bennett and Whoopi Goldberg was one of the producers as well directed by Chinonye Chukwu who also did the screenplay with Michael Reilly and Keith Beauchamp. It is amazing to know that it is 68 years ago this August when Emmett Till was murdered and the interest is still there when you think the recent killing of George Floyd in 2020 as well as the beating of Rodney King in 1992 which reminds us that the negative attitude still there and also just last year that the Emmett Till Anti Lynching Act was confirmed which it's great to see which this moovie is an history lesson. I am giving this 5 stars as it's in the cinemas now so do yourselves an favour and SEE IT which you will be impressed and amazed.
