Vale Peter Flanagan(the Fauns/The Flanagans)

Peter Flanagan member of legendary Australian singing family group the Fauns aka the The Flanagans passed away on September 2nd aged 73 at the Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney. Peter along with brother Paul and Sister Margaret began as the Fauns in 1959 as they had been doing classical music training which they released 3 singles on the Leedon label- Dance With Me/Don't Take the Stars, We Should Be Together/While Susan Sleeps and Nursery Rhymes Rock and as the Flanagans they released 4 singles on the HMV label-He/Wonderland Of Love and Dreams(1965), Follow the Wind/Land OF Beyond(1965), You Were Meant FOr Me/That's How Man Began(1966) and This is My Song/For Bobby(1967). the group did appearances on Bandstand,Six O'Clock Rock, Teen Time, The Johnny O'Keefe Show, Sing Sing Sing, the Mike Walsh Show, IMT, Revue 61, Revue 62 and many others as well as performing on the Matt Munro TV special in 1966 as well as performing in the clubs too as well as co writing the song the Growing Place for Mickey Leyton in 1977 as well as the AMP song We Can DO It for Ron Polson . It is a great loss to the Australia music industry and to his family but the work like the clips of them that is on You Tube as well as some of the Bandstand episodes that is on DVD will live on forever and also it is sad that they have not been acknowledged as they should as they were of that golden era of Australian rock as well as there has never been an proper CD of them so let's hope for it one day. Vale Peter Flanagan and thanks for the memories.

  1. Paul Flanagan was my English teacher last year and he recently passed away on the 13/08, he is such an inspiring person even after he retired he still came back to help out at school. His death left so many students in tears including myself it's so sad to know that I won't ever get to see him again, I still clearly remember him apologising to me for raising his voice at all the other students who were causing a ruckus he was the best teacher and it's so heartbreaking that he's no longer with us. RIP Mr Paul Flanagan
