Wild Colonial Boy by Dr Hook

For this week's lost classics I thought we go back to 1981 with the Dr Hook single Wild Colonial Boy. This was an cover of the Irish Australian folk song which was about an bushranger who dies in an gunfight with local police and it had been recorded by acts like Rolf Harris, The Irish Rovers, The Clancy Brothers, Burl Ives, Charlie Walker and many others. The one that was the hit was done by American group Dr Hook in 1981 and they had performed the song on American Bandstand hosted by Dick Clark which lead singer Dennis Locorriere mentioned that it went to charity and it was only an hit in Australia in 1981 which went to number 4 in Australia and number 3 here in Brisbane.
