billy thorpe's Time on Earth book by Jason Walker

I bought this book @ Target in the city last sunday November 1st and it's written by jason Walker who wrote a book about US country singer Gram Parson and is a musician. This book is about Billy Thorpe the australian rocker who came on the music scene in the 1960's with his band the aztecs who would have many hit records including Poison Ivy,Over the Rainbow, Sick & Tired etc and concert attendeces rivalling those of the Beatles. By the late 60's moved to melbourne where he and the Aztecs reinvent themeselves into an hard rock group with a driving blues inspired sound playing outdoor concerts like Sunbury, Melbourne Myer Music Bowl etc. In the mid 70's moved to the USa where he recorded albums, wrote songs for TV shows, worked with toys and played with Mick Fleetwood(Fleetwood mac) in the Zoo. in the 90's returned to australia where he wrote 2 books and appeared in comebacks and tributes like the Long Way To the Top concerts and documentary. continue touring and was recording tangier album when he died on a heart attack on February 28th 2007. This book is a excellent which also talks about Billy thorpe's early start in brisbane as Little Rock Allen at the age of 10 and palying on TV shows in brisbane as well perfroming with people like Little Richard,Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny O'Keefe,Col Joye etc as well as working with the Brisbane rock group the Planets. it has interviews with people like ex Aztecs members Tony barber,Vince Melouney,Gil Matthews,Paul Wheeler and Warren Morgan, sir wayne martin, sammy gaha,Robb Richards(the Planets) etc. it well worth reading and it's impressive. 4 stars
