the Dominoes 50th Anniversary show

On Friday December 7th 2012 I went to the redlands Multi Sports Club to see legendary Brisbane group the Dominoes who celebrated 50 years when they were formed in September 1962 and it was my 3rd time seeing them as my first @ was @ Wintersun in the MArquee on Wednesday June 6th 2007 and the Old ROckers get Together @ Riverside Ballroom New Farm on Sunday march 27th 2011. It was there in 2011 when Darryl wright the drummer mentioned that 2012 was going to be the 50th anniversary when the group were formed and an show was going to happend and I asked Darryl and Mike Steiner about it on MArch 25th this year @ New Farm which they were planning it for September @ Nundah Memorial Hall but did'nt happend. I heard nothing more about it until Lester Vickary said on Facebook that the show is happening on Friday December 7th @ the Redlands Multi Sports Club and I wanted to go which I did go. The show started @ 7pm which before the Dominoes' performance Lester sang an few songs and the group that played on the night were 4 of the original members Lester Vickary, Lew Noyes, Darryl Wright and George Savva, Mike Steiner who joined in 1963, Peter Novak on Guitar and for an couple songs Steve on piano and also Bobby Wilde the original lead singer was supposed to turn up to perform but he did'nt as he thought it was Saturday night as the others had told him it was Friday. For the next 3 hours the Dominoes performed classic rock songs including instrumentals and for Bobby's absence different singers performed Michael from the Cobras, Ash from Night Moves, Paul Fox an legendary musician who played with Capitol Showband, Leroy and the Blue Jays in Brisbane during the 60's and eaely 70's and Billy Weston another Brisbane singer from the 60's which he sounded great and among the audience besides from Paul Fox was Jimmy Hannon who was from the Brisbane group The Escorts back in the 60's and I saw my facebook friend Andrew ainsworth who does the Primitive Sounds website and magazine that talks about the Brisbane scene back in the mid 60's as well as interviewing Brisbane musicians of the that period too and an guy David who I met @ the Old ROckers Get Together in march. I met Jimmy Hannon, Paul Fox, Billy Weston and an lady named Jess that night and got autographs and photos with Billy, Jimmy, Paul, Lew Noyes and George Savva. the show finished @ about 10.30pm and spoke with Lester, Mike and Darryl which I introduced Andrew to which he told us some great stories about those days which I took some photos and also the show was FANTASTIC which I had an great time and everyone there had an great time despite Bobby not being there as well as after the show Bobby rang Darryl about the show which as I said thought it was Saturday which Andrew had an feeling that it was Bobby ringing up and he was right. Lucky to experience an part of Brisbane music history and the Dominoes were great on the night with great musicianship from the guys. set List- instrumental Tequila instrumental Red River Rock Unchain Route 66(with Mick) Lucile(with Mick) Johnny be Goode(with mick) kansas City(with Mick) Peter Gunn(with Ash) Unchain My heart(with Ash) Little Sister(with Ash) treat Her Right Shakin All Over peggy Sue Splish Splash Billy Weston- It Had To be You Crazy Clementine For Once In My life That Black MAgic White Christmas The Dominoes with Paul Fox- All Shook Up Stuck On You See You Later Alligator So Far Away From me Let's Stick Together Whole Lotta Shakin Going On blue Suede Shoes
