12 Years A Slave

On Friday night February 28th I went to the Myer Center Cinema to see the movie 12 Years A Slave. It's 1841 in and Solomon Northup(Chiwetel Ejiofor) who was born a free man as well as being a skilled carpenter and a fiddle player living in Saratoga Springs in new York but then was sold into slavery at the New Orleans Market which starts his nightmare for the next 12 years. He works first for plantation owner named William Ford(Benedict Cumberbatch)but then is resented by a racist carpenter named John Tibeats(Paul Dano) and then works for Edwin Ebbs (Michael Fassbender) who is a harsh owner who has a desire for a slave named Patsy (Lupita Nyong'o) and it gets interesting throughout the movie. It is a BRILLIANT and a SUPERB movie despite the sad and horrific story with BRILLIANT acting by Chiwetel Ejiofor who is nominated for Best Actor at the Oscars, Michael Fassbender who is nominated for Best Supporting Actor, Lupita Nyong'o who is nominated for Best Supporting Actress, Benedict Cumberbatch, Paul Dano, Sarah Paulson who plays Edwin's wife, Paul Giamatti, Alfre Woodard and Brad Pitt. This is based on the true story which it was the autobiography of Solomon Northup which was written in 1853 and it was directed by Steve McQueen who also produced it with Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner,Jeremy Kleiner,Bill Pohlad,Arnon Milchan and anthony Katagas, John Ridley did the screenplay, Hans Zimmer did the music and Sean Bobbitt did the cinematography. It is an amazing story of this man of who went through a terrible time of slavery including the beatings and abuse and how he survived as well as retaining his dignity. I am giving this 5 stars and it' currently screening in the cinemas at the moment.
