Classic Albums-Fleetwood Mac Fleetwood Mac

For this week's classic album segment let's have a look at the self titled album by Fleetwood Mac from 1975 which it was the debut album for both Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham in the group. Throughout the early 70's after the departure of guitarist and founding member Peter Green Fleetwood Mac went through many line up changes including Christine McVie (aka Perfect) joined in 1970 as well as Bob Welch joining in 1971 as well as departures of guitarists Jeremy Spencer in 1971 and Danny Kirwan in 1972 as they achieved modest success and then after moving to America in 1974 the group recorded the album Heroes Are Hard To Find which it was the last album for Bob Welch who would left the group after a tour in December that year. Mick Fleetwood was looking for a studio for the group to record the next album when a guy named Keith Olsen who was working for Sound City Studios in Los Angeles played a him a track from a album called Buckingham-Nicks which consisted of 2 people named Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks who had been in a group called Fritz from 1967-71 and also Mick liked the track Frozen Love which he was then introduced to Lindsey who was there recording demos that day so Mick asked him to join which he agreed but on the condition that stevie joined as well so Mick agreed and they joined the group on New Years Eve. The recording of the album Fleetwood Mac began in January 1975 at the Sound City Studios which lasted until February and it was released on July 11th 1975 which it went to number 1 in the USA on September 4th 1976 where it stayed there for 1 week which it stayed for a week and the album was in the charts for a year when it hit number 1 and also it went to number 23 in the UK which it was originally ignored when it was released at that time but was re-issued in 1978 that went to top 40 there. The group produced the album with Keith Olsen who also did the engineering and David Devore was the second engineer and from this album it had 3 top 40 hits in America Over My Head(no 20), Rhiannon(number 11) and Say You Love Me(number 11)which it was also number 40 in the UK and also Waddy Wachthel played rhythm guitar on 1 track. It is a great album with great songs which holds up very well today and the tracks on this album were written by Stevie Nicks, Lindsey Buckingham and Christine McVie except Blue Letter which was written by Michael and Richard Curtis. This album was the start of a very successful period for Fleetwood Mac which it was this line-up of Stevie and Lindsey that would become the Rumours line-up lasted until 1987 and also launched them as international superstars which it sold over 5 million copies as well as the follow up was to be Rumours which I already did a review on it for the classic album segment. This album is still in the shops and be sure to buy it which I'm sure you will enjoy listening to it.
