Classic Albums-Rick Is 21 by Rick Nelson

For this week's classic albums let's have a look at the 1961 album by American rock singer Rick Nelson called Rick is 21. The recording of this album began @ United Studios and Master Recorders in Hollywood California from february 11th 1960 until April 17th 1961 and it was released in May 1961 which it went to number 8 in the USA where it would stay in the charts for almost one full year. Jimmie Haskell produced the album who also did the arranging and it was from this album that had the hit 2 singles Travellin Man written by Jerry Fuller which was a number 1 hit and Hello marylou written by American singer-songwriter Gene Pitney (no 9 USA) with that brilliant guitar solo played by guitarist James Burton who was playing with at that time which those 2 songs was a double hit for Rick that year(1961). It is a excellent album with great songs which holds up very well including the 2 hits which stills get played on the radio to this day and besides from the hits there are some great tracks like Sure Fire Bet also written by Gene Pitney, I'll Make Believe written by Johnny Rivers who would go on to become a big name in the music business 3 years later, My One Desire written by Dorsey Burnette amongst others. This album has a country overtone which Rick's love of Country music is reflected heavily and he sings excellently on this album with excellent guitar playing by James Burton as well as Joe Osborne on bass and The Jordaniares on background vocals. This album is one of Rick Nelson's best albums ever made and it was in that year he became Rick instead of Ricky which he matures in this album with great material and also this album still in the shops somewhere in the world so be sure to listen to it as it is great music and it is timeless as well.
