Classic Albums-Take It greazy by Ol 55

This week's classic album segment we are looking at the 1976 album by Australian group Ol'55. Ol'55 began as an group called Fanis doing covers in 1972 in Sutherland, Sydney and became the name after the Eagles song Ol'55 written bY Tom Waits and were managed by future Australian music historian Glenn A Baker. They released their first single with the Paul Anka song Diana in September 1975 which was an Australia top 100 hit and in january 1976 began recording @ Trafalgar Studios in Sydney the album that was to become Take it Greazy. It was released in may 1976 which went to number 3 iN Australia and it went triple Platnium and it stayed in the top 50 for 39 weeks which at that time the music of the 50's rock'n'roll music and culture was gaining interest among the younger generation iN Australia due to the influence of the movie American Graffiti as well as the popular TV show Happy Days. this album had 2 hits-On the Prowl written by Jim Manzie an top 20 Australian hit and Looking For An Echo an number 9 hit as well as 2 other mAnzie Compostions as well as covers of classic rock songs like Almost grown, Think It Over, Only Sixteen and many others. It's an BRILLIANT and an rockin album with great stuff which still sounds so good today as it was in 1976 and holds up very well to this day. Ol'55 were one of the top Australian groups at the time with appearences on Countdown and performing with AC/DC, Skyhooks, Sherbet, Ted Mulry Gang and many others. this album was produced by Charles Fisher who in the 90's produced successful brisbane group Savage Garden, Graham Owens was the engineer and the musicians besides from the band who played on the album were Bob Taylor, Peter Bauers, Jackie Orszaczky and Michael Bart and it was Ol'55 that launched the careers of Frankie J Holden who went on to great success as an actor as well as TV show host and Wilbur Wilde went to jo jo Zep and the Falcons and appearing on Hey Hey It's Saturday. Take it greazy is still in the shops somewhere and be sure to listen to it as it sounds so good and it is timeless.
