Classic Albums-The Hollies (Hollies 1965)

This week's classic album segment I am looking at the 1965 album by legendary British rock group the Hollies called Hollies which it was their 3rd album. By 1965 the Hollies were one of the popular English groups who were formed in 1962 in Manchester England and had hits at the time like Ain't That Just Like Me, Searchin, Stay,Just One Look, Here I go Again, Yes I will,I'm Alive, Look Through Any WIndow etc. The recording of the album that was to become Hollies began @ Abbey Road Studios on November 10th 1964 and lasted until July 13th 1965 and also the album was released on September 1st 1965 which went to number 8 in the UK. There was no hits on this album but an B-side called So Lonely written by Graham Nash,Allan clarke and Tony hicks that was the flip side of Look through Any Window that was an number 4 in the Uk for the Hollies at the time in 1965 and 4 more originals are on this album as well as covers like the Very Last Day(an Peter Paul and Mary song) which was an hit for the Hollies in Scandiniva, Mickey's Money (which was an hit for Smokey Robinson and the Miracles in 1963), You Must believe Me, Down The Line and many others. it's an excellent album which sounds great today as it did in 1965 and the sound is just excellent with great harmonies of Allan Clarke, Graham Nash and Tony Hicks as well as Tony's guitar playing is well just BRILLIANT as well as Bobby Elliott's brilliant drumming and Eric Haydock's bass playing is just amazing. It is amazing that is 50 years this year since the Hollies were formed and still going today with members Tony Hicks and BobbY Elliott and the music they made back in the 60's and 70's still endures as well as in the 2 years their work has gotten an lot of appreciation with their Induction into the Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame in 2010 as well as the documentary that was out on DVD last year "Look Through Any Window". SInce this year is their special milestone I thought it would be appropriate to look at this album as they had some great albums even though they were an hit singles group and this album one of the best.
