Classic Albums- Aftermath By the Rolling Stones

This week's classic album segment is I am looking at the 1966 album by legendary British rock band the Rolling Stones. By this time in 1966 the Stones were riding high with successful hits Like It's All Over Now, Little Red Rooster, Time Is On My Side, The Last time, Get Off My Cloud, Satisfaction, 19th nervous Breakdown and others and had successful albums like the Rolling Stones , 12x5, Out of Our Heads and December's Children. The recording for Aftermath began @ RCA studios in Hollywood on December 3rd 1965 which lasted til the 8th and again from March 6th-9th 1966 with manager Andrew Loog Oldham who produced the album and Dave Hassinger did the engineering. the album was released on April 15th 1966 iN England which went to number 1 where it stayed there for 28 weeks and no 2 in the USA when it was released on June 20th where it stayed there for 50 weeks and there were no hits from that album in ENgland but some of the songs were hits for others like Take It Or Leave It For British band the Searchers which went to no 31, Lady Jane was an hit for British singer David Garrick, Out of time an number 1 hit for British singer CHris Farlowe in 1966 but in the USA Mother's Little Helper was an number 8 there as the album had different tracks in the USA like the number 1 hit at that time Paint it Black and What to do, Mother's Little Helper, Out Of Time and Take It Or Leave were on the USA either. It is an BRILLIANT album which it sounds an great today as it was in 1966 and it was an artistic breakthrough for the Stones it was the first album that had all original songs written by Mick jagger and Keith Richards as it was the first stones album to be recorded in the USA entirely and also the songs are just BRILLIANT which there is 1 song called Goin Home that is an 11 minute song which was one of the first songs in rock that went beyond the normal 3 minute pop songs at that time even though there House Of the Rising SUn by the Animal went 4 minutes and Bob Dylan's LIke A Rolling Stone went for about 6 minutes as well other great songs on that album like Stupid Girl, it's Not easy, Doncha Bother Me and others. the band were really at their peak at that time and it's on this album that Brian Jones play an variety of instruments like sitar, HArpsichord,Piano,Organ, slide guitar, koto, harmonica, Dulcimer, marimbas and bells which he was just an BRILLIANT musician as he could play anything as well as playing sitar on Paint it Black. AS this year is the 50th anniversary of the formation of the Rolling Stones I though it would be appropriate to look at one of the albums from the 60's it was not easy for me to choose as there was also Beggars Banquet and Let it Bleed as well but decided to do Aftermath. This album came at the time in 1966 when landmark albums were also coming outlike the Beach Boys with Pet SOunds, the Beatles with Revolver , Bob Dylan with Blonde on Blonde and others and this album is the finest albums the Rolling Stones made.
