Classic ALbums-Bridge Over Troubled Water Simon and Garfunkel

For this week's classic album segment let's have an look at the 1970 album by American singing duo Simon and Garfunkel which it was their 5th and final album as an duo. It was by 1969 that Simon and Garfunkel who had successful hit singles with Sounds of Silence, I Am A Rock, Homeward Bound, At the Zoo, Mrs Robinson and many others and successful albums as including Bookends which had been released as well as the the Graduate soundtrack album as 1968 had an successful year for them. It was also by 1969 that the success was taking an toll on Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel which Art was filming an movie called Catch 22 which was directed by Mike Nichols who also had directed the Graduate that starred Dustin hoffman,Anne Bancroft and Katharine Ross while Paul was writing the songs for the next album and the filming took 8 months that put an strain on the relationship as Paul was doing the writing as well as doing touring and doing an TV special in November 1969 called Songs Of America on CBS which the sponsors refused because of it's anti-Vietnam message . The making of the album that would become Bridge Over Troubled Water started From November 1968-Janaury 1970 in Nashville, los Angeles and New York and on January 26th 1970 the album was released which it went to number 1 in the USA where it stayed there for 10 weeks as well as staying in the charts for 85 weeks, no 1 in the UK where it stayed there for 35 weeks as well as staying in the charts for 285 weeks from 1970-75 as well as number 1 in Australia,Canada, Japan, Norway,Sweden,Germany,France and Holland and no 4 in Italy , from that album had 3 hit singles the title track,Cecilia,the Boxer and El Condor Pasa(If I Could)and it won 6 Grammys- Album Of The Year, Record of the year,Song Of the Year, Best Engineered Recording,Contemporary Song Of The Year and Instrumental Arrangement Of the Year.The album was produced by Paul, Art and Roy Halee who worked with them on Mrs Robinson as well as the Bookends album and it was not long after that Simon and Garfunkel split up which Paul went to great solo success and Art went on to do movies as well as solo success with Bright Eyes, My little Town, All I know and many others. It is an BRILLIANT album with great songs still endures to this day and besides from the 4 hits from the album there is an version of the Everly Brothers song Bye Bye Love, Baby Driver, Song For the Asking and others and Paul and Art sounded great on it which art sings great on the title track as he sings it so well as well as the among the musicians who played on it were Fred Carter Jr on Guitar, Hal Blaine on Drums, Joe Osborn on bass and Larry Knechtel played piano which he played on the title track which sounds so good. This album is still in the shops somewhere in the world and I am sure you will enjoy listening to the album. This is the one best albums they ever made and an great way to finish the partner with an great album which it went 8X Platinum in the USA and 4x Platinum in Canada and to this day it has sold over 25 million copies worldwide.
