Classic Albums-The Fabulous Johnny Cash by Johnny Cash
For this week's classic album segment let's have a look at the 1958 album by American country singer Johnny Cash called the Fabulous Johnny Cash. This album was his first for Columbia Records which he signed with them in 1958 after being @ Sun Records for 3 years and it was recorded in Nashville from July-August 1958 which it was released in November 1958 where it went to number 19 in the US album charts. It was produced by Don Law and the musicians on the album besides from the Tennessee Two Luther Perkins on guitar and on double bass Marshall Grant among the others were Don helms on steel guitar, on drums marvin Palmer and the legendary singing group the Jordanaires are on background vocals. From this album it has 2 hit singles Don't Take your Guns To TOwn and Frankie's Man Johnny both written by Johnny Cash and besides from those 2 hits there are some great stuff including 3 more Johnny Cash compostions including I Still Miss Someone along with covers including One More Rife a song had been done by the Sons Of the Pioneers as well as Suppertime,That's Enough and others. It is a excellent album which holds up very well today with great songs that still endures to this day and it has a great sound which covers everything from honky tonk, ballads, gospel and railroad tunes. It was 10 years thursday that Johnny Cash passed away but the music he made from 1954-2003 still holds very well today which remains timeless and as I said this album was his 1st for the Columbia label(his 3rd album) which he would remain with the label for 28 years where he would have great success with that label as well with classic hits and albums including 2 live shows @ Folsom Prison and San Quintein . This album is one of his best and it is still shops somewhere which be sure to listen which I'm sure you will enjoy listening to it.
