Classic Albums; The Boys Light Up Australian Crawl

The Boys Light Up album was the debut album for Australian Crawl an group from Melbourne in Mt Eliza in the Mornington Peninsula who were formed in 1978 with the members having in 2 bands Spiff Rouch and the Flatheads and had brought the attention of David Briggs who was the guitarist with the Little River Band which it led them to get an recording contract with EMI. He would produced this album which was recorded at AAV studios in Melbourne from August 1979 to February 1980 and was released in April 1980 which it went to no 4 on the Australian album charts where it stayed for 101 weeks and eventually selling over 280,000 copies 5 times platinum. From that album it had 3 hit singles the title track written by James Reyne, downhearted written by sean Higgins and Bill and Guy McDonough and Beautiful people written by James Reyne and those songs are still played on the radio to this day. This album holds up very well today in 2012 with great songs all original material written by members of the group as well as with former band mates and relatives and besides from the 3 hits that is on this album there some other great songs like Hoochie Gucci Fiorucci Mama written bY David Briggs and James Reyne,Red Guitar and My Coffee's Gone Cold written by Simon Binks, Indsiposed written by James Reyne, Brad and James Robinson and Bill McDonough and many others. Ross Cockle was the engineer and the addtional musicians on it were on keyboards Mal Logan,Eddie Raynor(Split Enz),Peter Jones and Keith McKay, on sax Bill Harrower, Percussion was Derek Pellici who was from the Little River Band at the time and Mal Stainton. It is one of the best Australian albums ever as it's sounds so good and still endures after 32 years as it was the band that launched the career for James Reyne who is still going strong today.
