Marty recorded the songs for the album that was to become Gunfighter Ballads and Trial Songs at the Bradley Film and Recording Studios in Nashville on April 7th 1959 which lasted that same day and the producer on it was Don Law who was the head of the country division for Columbia as well as the Glaser Brothers doing the background vocals, guitarists Grady Martin and Jack H Pruett, Bob Moore on bass and Louis Dunnon drums. The album was released in September 1959 which went to number 6 in the USA that went platnium and no 20 in the UK and would become one of his best albums as well as best selling albums of his career and also the album was in the Billboard charts for 36 weeks.
