This week's classic album is the 1974 album 461 Ocean Boulevard by british blues guitarist Eric Clapton which it was his second solo album. After overcoming his addiction with Herion Eric Clapton was given an demo tape by bassist from Derek And the Dominoes Carl Radle with songs that was performed by Radle, Dick Simms the keyboardist and Jamie Oldaker on drums. Robert Stigwood who was managing the Bee Gees as well as Eric arranged for him to record at Criteria Studios in Miami,Florida with the 3 musicians as well as producer Tom Dowd who had been an engineer working with Ruth Brown,The Coasters, Ray Charles, Bobby Darin as well as having produced The Young Rascals, Rod Stewart,Lulu,Otis Redding,Sonny and Cher and others. Stigwood also paid Eric to live at an rental house in Golden Beach which it's near Miami on 461 Ocean Boulevard. It was recorded at Criteria from April until May 1974 and it was when Eric Started recording there that he hired Yvonne Elliman an guest vocalist who went on to have the hit single If I Can't Have You in 1978 and George Terry ab guitarist. The album was released in July 1974 which went to number 1 in the USA on August 17th where it stayed there for 4 weeks,no 3 in the Uk and no 2 in Australia and it was from the it had 2 hit singles I shot the Sheriff(USA number 1) an cover version of the Bob Marley song which guitarist George Terry had played the album Burnin that inspired them to record the song which Eric initially did want to release it on the album but was persuaded by the other band members to inlcude it and an cover version of the Johnny Otis song Willie and the Hand Jive. It's an Excellent album which it holds up very well today and Eric Clapton is at his best on this album with great songs like Let it Grow, Motherless Children, get ready, Mainline Florida and it's sounds so good today as it was in 1974. the engineers were Karl richardson, Ron Fawcus and Andy Knight, guest musicians were Al Jackson drummer from Booker T and the MG's, Marcy Levy, Tom bernfield and Albhy GAulten. Eric Clapton is still going strong and this album is an classic album indeed one of his best albums
