Classic Albums- I'm Nearly Famous Cliff RIchard
This week's classic album segment I'm looking at the 1976 album called I'm Nearly Famous by legendary British singer Cliff Richard. Cliff had been going through an downward slump throughout the 70's after having the success that he had in 1950's and 60's and in 1975 did not have an record in the charts which it was the first year of his career not to have that. the album known as I'm Nearly Famous was recorded @ Abbey Road from September-December 1975 with ex Shadows member Bruce Welch as producer and it was him who set about finding new songs for Cliff. The album was released in May 1976 which went to number 5 in the UK where it stayed there for 21 weeks which went gold ,no 45 in Australia and no 76 in the USA and from this album came 3 singles Miss You nights which went to number 15 in the UK, Devil Woman written by Terry britten & Christine Homes(formerly of the Australian 60's group the Twilights) going to no 9 in the UK, no 6 in the USA which was Cliff's first single to reach the top 20 there, number 3 in Australia and number 2 in Ireland and I Can't Ask For Anymore Than You which went to number 17 in the UK, no 80 in the USA and number 2 in Ireland. It is an excellent album with great songs that still endures to this day and besides from the 3 hits on the album among the other songs were I Wish You'D Change your Mind written by Terry Britten, an Mickey Newbury song called Lovers etc. It also received rave reviews by the press as well as receiving kudos from people like Elton John and Elizabeth Taylor who wore the T shirts that had the I'm Nearly famous logo and it is one of Cliff's best albums ever made.
