Classic Albums-Beggars Banquet The Rolling Stones

For this week's classic album segment let's have a look at the 1968 album by legendary British rock group the Rolling Stones called Beggars Banquet. The recording of the album began @ Olympic Studios in London on March 17th 1968 and it lasted until July 25th 1968. The album was released on December 6th 1968 which it went to number 3 in the UK and number 5 in the USA which eventually went Platinum and it was produced by Jimmy Miller who had produced both Traffic and Spooky Tooth(well Known British groups at that time) as well as co writing the song I'm A Man for the Spencer Davis Group and also it began the collaboration between him and the Stones which would last until 1973 with Goats Head Soup. From this album it had the one hit single Street Fighting Man which went to number 48 in the USA and no 21 in the UK when it was released in 1971 and there are other great tracks including Sympathy FOr the Devil, Prodigal Son a Robert Wilkins song , Salt Of The Earth, No Expectations and many others. It is excellent and a BRILLIANT album with great songs which holds up very well to this day and it sounds so good to listen to which has a mixtures of ballads, rock and blues as it was a return to the group's roots and also Besides from the members the other musicians played on the album including Dave Mason and Rick Grech from Traffic and session pianist Nicky Hopkins. This album was start of the change of the musical direction for the Stones which was also the start of a creative period for the Stones which would last until the early 70's and they were really at their game at that time and also after the drug bust situations involving Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Brian Jones as well as the album Their Satanic Majesties album being recorded as well Andrew Loog Oldham quit being their manager in 1967 the Rolling Stones really came up with the goods with a great album that still is one of the best albums ever made.
