Classic ALbums- Towards the Blues Chain

For this week's classic album segment let's have a look at the 1971 album by the legendary Australian blues rock band Chain called Towards the Blues. The album was recorded @ TCS Sound Studios in Melbourne in April 1971 which lasted 3 days and the line-up of Chain that was to become the well known line-up that recorded this album were Matt Taylor on lead vocals and harmonica who joined them in September 1970, Phil Manning on lead guitar, Barry Sullivan on bass and Barry Harvey on drums. The album was released in September 1971 on the Infinty label that was part of Festival at that time which went to number 6 on the Australian charts which stayed in the Top 40 for 4 months and by the time the album came out they had 2 hit singles Black and Blue and Judgement. The album was produced by John Sayers and Chain which John was also the engineer and Ian McCausland did the cover design and also besides from the hit single Judgement as well as the album version of Black and Blue there are great tracks on it including a version of the Junior Wells song Grab A Snatch and Hold It as well as Chain compositions including Boogie. It is a great album that holds up very well to this day and the music endures with great guitar playing by Phil Manning, great drumming by Barry Harvey and great singing and harmonica playing by Matt Taylor and also it was the group's second album as their first had been Live Chain which this album is still in print to this day. It is 45 years when Chain was formed and 42 years since the album was released which they are still touring with Matt Taylor and Phil Manning and also this album is still in the shops so do yourself a favour and BUY It which I'm sure you will enjoy listening to this album.
